2018 certainly has been a busy year for our Dominican Family. In addition to our powerful presentation on Amaanah Refugee Services in January, there has been an Informational Night for prospective Dominican members; a two-day Dominican Family Retreat; and February's Visioning Gathering. Below are highlights of these events.
Dominican Family Visioning
On Monday, February 5, 2018, the Dominican Family was challenged to envision the hopes and dreams of the Family twenty years from now. Women from Angela House not only greeted Family members, but furnished delicious baked goods. Donations totaling more than $600 will provide funds for outside activities, like bowling and the zoo.
The evening was facilitated by fellow Dominican Family member, Carmen Armistead, who challenged the Family to envision the Dominican Family 20 years from now. Members at each table sketched out, either in words of graphics, their thoughts, hopes and dreams for our future and shared that with the larger group.

On Sunday, March 4th, a smaller group of volunteers will condense the input and layout a 5-Year Vision to achieve our 20 year vision. The new Vision statement will then be presented to the Leadership Team and the Dominican Family at the April Gathering.
Dominican Family Retreat
The Dominican Family held its' second Annual Retreat on January 26th and 27th. The Retreat Master was fellow Family member, Fr. John Rooney. Fr. John led the group on a spiritual journey, further exploring our theme of the year, "Searching for Truth, Nourishing Compassion". During the weekend we came to realize that compassion is the fruit of our contemplation, which begins with study and prayer.
Dominican Family Invitational Evening
On January 11, 2018 interested women and men gathered to learn more about the Dominican Family and our mission. Twelve have chosen to join us as Inquirers. They will have their first gathering on Monday, February 19th. Many thanks to all those who invited their family and friends to "come and see". Please keep these Inquirers in your thoughts and prayers as they begin their Dominican journey.
Speaking of Dominican journey, The Formation Class of 10 men and women are rapidly approaching Discernment in April. Those that choose to do so, will make their First Commitment at our annual Commitment Mass on Sunday, April 29 at 2 PM. The entire Dominican Family is STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND, WELCOME AND SUPPORT OUR NEW MEMBERS!
