Apr 2016: Highlights of Dominican Family April Gathering
The April Gathering featured the very popular Wine and Dessert Pot Luck, which provided Family members time to connect and visit.
Sr. Carol spoke about our upcoming Dominican Family Commitment Mass, which will be celebrated Sunday, April 24th at 2 pm, noting that 51 Family Members were due for recommitment. Along with those recommitting, there are 10 new Family members who will make their First Commitment that day. Sr. Carol also noted that there are 25 young and energetic men and women in the Inquiry Class, illustrating the Family's strength and growth.
Neil Douglas spoke of the Laudato Si Study Group, which he led. Neil also informed the group of the some of important facets of the Papal encyclical.
Carmen Armistead lead the group through a very thoughtful reflection and sharing on who God is to us now and how that ties in with being Dominican.

John brought Sr. Maureen O'Connell up to congratulate her on being named a Houston Hero by the Houston Chronicle for her work in founding and running Angela House.
In closing, John invited the 15 members of the Leadership Team forward to acknowledge them for their hard work. The four members that were rotating off the leadership Team were: Jim Skopal, Judy McCullough, Carmen Armistead and Joe Allen. Each was presented an award in thanksgiving for their years of service to the Family. The Award read: Preach Always, use words when necessary.
At the end of the meeting Georgia Skopal, assumed the role as Current Chairperson. Georgia announced the new members of the leadership team. Kevin Smith begins as Future Chair and will serve a 3 year term. Neil Douglas and Lynn Hogan will serve as Councilors for 2 year terms. Congratulations to all the new members of the Leadership Team and a special thank you to those that have served previously.

Dominican Family Happy Hour on Sunday, April 17th

Commitment Mass, Sunday April 24th
Come welcome the newest members to our Dominican Family as they make their first commitment on Sunday, April 24th at 2pm. We will also be installing the newest members of the Dominican Family Leadership Team. Welcome reception will follow the ceremony.
St. Catherine of Sienna is visiting our Dominican Family on May 6th and 7th!
To celebrate our 800 year Anniversary, the Dominican Family has invited Sr. Nancy Murray, OP to join us. She is renowned for her portrayal of St. Catherine of Sienna. This is a great way to learn more about our Dominican roots. Sr. Nancy Murray's brother is comedian, Bill Murray! She has the reputation of being just as entertaining.
