Apr 2016: Another Dominican Family member recognized for her volunteer service!
Congratulations to long-time Dominican Family member, Liuda Flores and her husband, Gustavo, for their volunteer work with Medical Bridges. Liuda and Gustavo will be presented the Norm Beris Lifetime Achievement Award at the Medical Bridges Service Awards Dinner on April 28th.
Below is the story from the Medical Bridges press release. For more information on the Awards Dinner see the link below:
Liuda Flores started volunteering for Medical Bridges in 1999, at the original location on Cadillac Drive. She came to Medical Bridges with a desire to send needed supplies to her homeland, Lithuania, which had reclaimed its independence from the Soviet Union after 50 years of occupation. Gustavo joined her in volunteering after he retired in 2001.
During the first years, the couple sorted medical supplies as needed, and when Medical Bridges moved to the current location on Magnet Street, they were asked to dedicate themselves to sorting sutures, and this is what they have been doing ever since. Liuda and Gustavo say it was quite the surprise to be selected for the award. "We feel honored and appreciated, especially since Norm Beris has been a very meaningful part of our involvement with Medical Bridges," Liuda said. "We have worked together and have enjoyed his company, ever since he became a part of the organization." Dorothy Bolettieri, Medical Bridges' president and CEO, said, "Liuda and Gustavo are valued members of our volunteer family. We are delighted to offer them this award; they are more than deserving of the recognition for their many years of service to Medical Bridges." In addition, Liuda and Gustavo, who have attended previous Service Awards Dinners, are looking forward to the event itself, not just because it allows them to meet the network of people who are involved with Medical Bridges' mission, but also because it validates how local volunteering matters in the larger scheme of world events.
Medical Bridges is extremely pleased to honor Liuda and Gustavo Flores, such dedicated and invaluable volunteers, with the Norm Beris Lifetime Achievement Award.
