We have an upcoming advocacy
opportunity for Dominican Family Members
outside of our monthly meetings to
address issues of social concern in Houston.
We are looking to support The
Metropolitan Organization’s (TMO) Get Out the Vote initiative.
TMO shares concern for many of the same issues as The Dominican Family,
specifically, issues that relate to poverty in Houston. TMO is an
organization of institutions that works with local policymakers to
encourage them to speak and
act for the common good of our local
community. TMO is non-partisan and values-based, involving people who
are committed to acting on the call to social justice that is central
to our faith traditions.
TMO’s 2020 focus issues embody the values of Catholic Social Teaching
and include:
- COVID Response & Healthcare - Police Reform - Workforce Development - Education - Immigration - Harvey Recovery/Improving flood prevention for at-risk
communities.
More details
about TMO can be found here: tmohouston.org/agenda2...
Do any of these issues resonate with you? Is there another issue you
would like to draw attention to with our policymakers? If so, the
Dominican Family Poverty Committee is inviting you to attend a 30-45
minute 'House' meeting via Zoom for a Table Talk discussion with a
small group of other Family members to share your thoughts. Through our
TMO partnership, the 2020 Candidates will hear our voices, to make a
difference in our community.
