The always fun-loving women of Angela House joined the
Dominican Family prior to our prayer service. The women provided
wonderful sweets which were perfect for a Mardi Gras celebration! The
women use the donations to fund their social events, like bowling and
the movies!

Kindness and Compassion
In keeping with this year's theme, Compassion In Action, our March
Gathering was highlighted by very powerful preaching by fellow
Dominican Family member, Phylliss Chappell. She led the Family
through an insightful reflection on kindness and compassion. Phylliss'
talk was reminiscent of our beginnings with the Dominican Family -- we
gathering in the Villa Chapel!
Afterwards, Family members gathered at tables to share personal
insights and how they might be useful during the Lenten season.
Thanks to the Prayer Committee members who facilitated the table
discussion!

Several important announcements were made at the
Gathering:
- Our
February Gathering, Spiritual Body, Human Institution: Discerning
our Response to our Institutional Crisis, was very emotional and
left many with a call to action. There was a sentiment that
we, the people of faith that comprise the Church, are dissatisfied
with the culture of the hierarchy of the Church. We want to step
up to ensure that the culture changes for the better. As a next step, the
Leadership Team would like to invite those of you who are
compelled to learn more and respond to form a reflection/study/action
group. Please let Judy, Lauri or Kevin know, or reply to
this Flocknote, if you want to participate.
- The
Poverty Committee will be meeting on 3/23 at 9:00 am in the
Dominican Sisters small Conference Room. At
10:00 the committee will host a book discussion in the larger
admin conference room – Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and
Redemption by Bryan Stevenson. All DF members are welcome to
participate.
- The
last Monday Gathering of the year will be April 1. It is our
Annual Appetizer/Desert Potluck. Abby Linesch will send an
e-mail inviting you to use Sign-Up Genius to volunteer to bring an
item. “Being Dominican” and introduction of our new Leaders
are the topics.
- Before
the April 1 Gathering, the DF will be collecting men's clothing
for the Bristol
Center, which serves the needs of the homeless.
They need men's shirts, pants, shoes, and jackets. The
Bristol Center already has a budget for socks and underwear, so
those items are unnecessary. We will have a car parked
outside of our meeting space on April 1 where you may leave any
donation items for easy drop off.
