February Gathering Wrap-Up and Photos
Thank you to the Poverty Committee for
presenting a great program for Monday night’s gathering. They created
an interactive exercise to sort out myths from reality with some
surprising revelations; showed a short video about Gary, a single dad
struggling to raise his daughter (Click on this link to watch the
video: interactive.wttw.com/f...) and deep table
talk discussions about experiences and the emotions that come with
seeing and/or experiencing poverty. A lively game of musical chairs
demonstrated how those with disadvantages get left out when job
opportunities present themselves. Poverty is a very large and complex
problem with much work to be done.

Poverty Committee, please get in touch with Shawna at shawna.callaghan@att.net
For some positive news in the fight to
raise people out of poverty, Houston is getting national attention for
finding homes for the unsheltered in a way that no other big city has.

Microplastics are defined as being
1-5mm in size; microplastics are small plastic pieces that are
ubiquitous across the marine environment.
Estimates put the total amount of
floating microplastics at over 5 TRILLION pieces ( that’s 5 with 12
ZEROES after it!), weighing over 250,000 TONS. On top of this are all
those that have sunk to the bottom of the ocean, washed up on beaches,
or have accumulated inside marine organisms. It is estimated that 1.5
trillion tons of microplastics are released into the ocean every year.
This is the equivalent of everyone throwing an empty plastic grocery
bag into the ocean every week.
We can all do our small part by
reducing our plastic waste by:
- Avoiding
products containing microplastics
- Reducing
our plastic waste. We can easily do this by not using single-use
plastic products such as grocery bags.
- Being
proactive as voters and helping push our government and businesses
to do the same.
- And
most importantly, SPREAD THE WORD AND DO YOUR SMALL PART. IT ADDS
UP!
Attention Dominican Family Artists, Dancers, Musicians,
and more A message from the Dominican Institute for the Arts
(DIA)
We know there may be artists in your
Congregation who are not DIA members, and we would like to share our
creative journey with them. Many do not believe they are artists though
they design cards and logos, are dancers, painters, musicians, poets,
etc. Often, they need the encouragement of Associate Directors to
realize the gift they have and are. We know you want to promote their
work as well. Therefore we are sharing the Membership Form (click on
this link to download a membership form: diartsop.org/DIA_Membe... With
membership, they have a page in our DIA Website Gallery and the support
and encouragement of fellow Dominican artists committed to preaching
God's Word through art. 2023 is a special year for DIA. We are
celebrating 23 years of preaching through the arts.
If you have any questions, please get
in touch with me, Pat Daly OPA, President DIA, at 781-843-8137.
Lenten Reflections
A special Flocknote will go out next
week with information about opportunities to enrich your Lenten
journey. Please keep an eye out for this information.
