Opening The gathering started promptly at 7:00PM, after some social
time for everyone to get caught up with each other. Anna first went
to the committees for reports.
Racial Justice Committee Calista opened by showing a short video that was very informative
called “What is Systemic Racism in America”. The
video was well done and did a brief analogy comparing two children growing
up at the same time in different environments. The group is growing
and they welcome ANYONE to join the group and explore this important topic
in our country today. Their next meeting will be Tuesday December 15th
at 1:00PM. If you want to participate or just sit in on a meeting to
see if you want to join, contact Calista at calista@heberts.org
for more information.
Poverty Committee Shawna Callaghan updated everyone on the books that they are
reading and discussing. The current book they are reading and discussing
overlaps a little with the Racial justice Committee, but it explores
another side of the injustices in America and how it makes it difficult for
blacks to break out of this cycle. The book is called So You Want to Talk About Race
by Ijeoma Oluo. They are also picking their next book, and invite any
family members to weigh in on what the next book should be. Please take this survey by Dec. 11.
If you’re interested in this committee and book, please
consider joining their next meeting on February 24th, contact
Shawna at shawna.callaghan@att.n...
.
Prayers Requested Sister Carol then briefly asked everyone for continued
prayers and support those who have or are currently suffering from Covid19.
She also asked everyone to pray for the soul of Vic Virgadamo who
recently passed away from Covid19. Vic first committed in 2011 and he
and his wife Pat were very active early on. Please keep Pat and their
family in your prayers.
Breakout Sessions We then went to the video segments for the night, and went
deeper into the segment of The Life and
Spirit of St. Dominic. We explored “The Mission
Continues” module. Some thought provoking questions for reflection and
conversation:
- When have you had a strong
sense of the Spirit at work in your life? What area in your life or in
the Dominican Family do you wish to entrust to the Spirit's powerful
intervention?
- What are the choices you
make that shape the Preaching of your life? Where are you most
challenged by this call? How is your life nourished by the 4 pillars?
What invitation to personal growth do they hold for you?
