The Dominican Family’s November 5th
Gathering provided an opportunity to study Pope Francis’ latest
Encyclical – A Call to Holiness. But with a twist! Based on
feedback from Family members while developing the new Vision Statement
earlier in 2018, we decentralized the meeting and held three smaller
Gatherings to provide the opportunity for a shorter commute. Sr.
Carol facilitated the meeting at St. Agnes, Anna Sklut facilitated at
St. Pius and Kevin Smith facilitated at The Meeting Room. The
Gatherings at the schools started at 5:30 and at The Meeting Room as
usual at 7:00. The locations had between 21-26 people and all the
features of a typical gathering – sisters present, snacks, time
beforehand for socializing, prayer and singing! The DFLT will
assess the feedback you provided (thanks!) to determine when and how to
use the decentralized meeting concept.
Carol, Anna and Kevin presented a summary of the content of the
Encyclical then facilitated a “teach-around”. Each table spent
time reading and discussing select quotes from the Pope’s writing that
focused on the individual nature of being holy, including specific
examples of holiness in everyday life. Holiness is a journey,
unique for each of us – integral to the mission of our life.
While not complicated, it is extremely challenging. And the
journey can bring great happiness. Click these to access the summary presentation, selected quotes, or the Encyclical itself on our DF website if
