As the warm days of July come to an end, leading to the warm days of
August, we trust you’ve been enjoying summertime activities, foods, and
places within or outside of Houston.
We are planning our year’s gatherings
and events with a nod toward our theme, Begin. So, we begin with
the dates for the 2022-23 DF Gatherings by directing you to the website
that has them listed, along with start times. Please note, in response
to requests for fewer evening meetings, three gatherings are held
during the day and on weekends when it’s easier to get to the Mother
House. Check out the website and click on the link (on the list view)
to add these dates to your personal calendar.

Update Member Information
Speaking of the website, we’d like to
remind you to update your personal information. Below you’ll see the
link to sign into DF of Houston MEMBER LOGIN page of our website. Enter
your email and password to access the secure area for members. Please
do not worry if you cannot remember this information. Choose the
“Forgot/Reset your password” link, and you will be provided with
instructions. Once on the Members Only page, click “Edit Profile” and
change details as needed. This is also where you can click the box to
sign up for the DF Daily Prayer if you want to be included. If you’ve
moved, dropped a landline, or have a new email address, please make the
changes on our site - many use this directory to contact other members,
so current information is always appreciated.

Coming Soon—Dominican Family T-Shirts
We are excited to offer the
opportunity for you to order a Dominican Family T-shirt. This, too, is
in response to requests that we have shirts that help unite and
identify us when we work in groups or are attending a large event where
it would be nice to spot fellow Dominican Family members quickly. We’ll
be sending the link in an August Flocknote so be sure to look for it
and begin to get ready to
place your order.
Volunteer Opportunity from the Poverty Committee
The Nativity School needs help with
getting the school ready for the upcoming year. There will be an
on-site grounds improvement day (as was done last year by the Poverty
committee) on Saturday, August 6th, from
8:00 AM- 11:00 AM. This event involves touching up
paint on playground borders and re-mulching flower beds. For more
information, please contact Shawna Callahan at shawna.callaghan@att.n...
Last year’s workday was a lot of fun and was a chance to get to know DF
members you might otherwise not have met.
Integral Ecology Corner
Greenhouse gases are good…sort of. The
most common greenhouse gases are methane, water vapor, and carbon
dioxide. Too many of them contribute to global warming – resulting in
the melting of the ice caps, and a subsequent rise in sea levels, among
other damaging effects such as desertification, droughts, floods,
forest fires, and heatwaves. However, in adequate amounts, greenhouse
gases trap heat in the earth’s atmosphere keeping it warm to support
the survival of humans, animals, and plants. It means that without
these gases, the planet would be too cold to support life.
We look forward to our first gathering
on September 12 and will have details on that and more in our August
Flocknotes. Till then, enjoy the waning days of summer—we can’t wait
to see everyone in September!
