- Leadership Opportunities –
We are looking ahead to next year. Would you like to be part of the
leadership team, or do you know a family member that would be great in
working more actively in Dominican Family? If so, contact Anna, Greg,
Lauri, or Carol.
The
Gathering:
- We began the meeting with a
prayer entitled “Prayer for Respectful
Discourse”.
- Lauri Ruiz introduced the
speaker for the evening, Megan Phelps-Roper and her friend Laura Floyd
Megan wrote the book “Unfollow” about her moral awakening
and departure from the Westboro Baptist Church. The controversial church
was founded by her grandfather and was rooted in a very fundamental and
extremist doctrine that gained national notoriety by picketing military
funerals and denouncing the LBGTQ community.
Her talk was fascinating and enlightening, speaking about
leaving the church and her entire family behind as she became more aware of
the flaws and inconsistency with the church’s teaching.
It was an amazing meeting!!
If you would like to see her speak about her experiences,
here is a link to her TED talk about her journey.
Final thoughts:
We closed out the meeting with the Dominican Blessing
Our next meeting will be the 2nd Monday April 12,
2021, 7:00 p.m.
