The Dominican Sisters of Houston continue to strive for allyship and to amplify Black voices. As such, they have aligned themselves with the National Black Sisters’ Conference in offering the attached statement, which emphasizes how little progress has been made in respecting the rights and dignity of Black people since our enslavement of their ancestors. Please take a moment to read. As Dominican Family, we walk side by side the Dominican Sisters of Houston, especially in our work for justice.

Other Resources to Consider in our work toward allyship:

• Dismantling Systemic Racism demands a willingness to examine our individual biases, choices, and actions. Consider starting with a daily Examen for White Allies. 
• Support Black-Owned Businesses. Find black-owned restaurants with the EatOkra App.
• First Listen, Then Learn: Anti-Racism Resources for White People includes an extensive reading list (novels, memoirs, articles, resources for children and families, etc.)
• Be sure there is an awareness of this moment in your workplace. Consider What managers should – and should not – do to address this moment of racial reckoning. And also be clear on What Not to Say to Your Black Colleagues Right Now.
• Have conversations with your family, especially your kids, your friends and relatives. 
• Consider displaying a yard sign purchased from a black activist group whose mission aligns with your values. 
• Consider donating to a black activist group or fund to bail out protesters. Research and choose an organization whose mission and work aligns with your values.  

Most importantly, recognize that this is not just a moment in time: this work must continue and become (or continue to be) the fabric of who we are as individuals, as Dominicans, as people of God. Thank you for the ways you preach with your lives!
