Monday’s Zoom, “Social Justice – The Disproportionate
Effect the Pandemic is Having on Minority and Vulnerable Populations”
engaged essential questions: what can be done now? What needs to be
done in the (near and distant) future? How can we, as Dominican Family,
work to change the systems that have created and perpetuated these
divisions in our society? Right now: Family members spoke of community
organizations offering essential charity, meeting peoples’ needs. Many
of these organizations are running out of resources to continue
providing for people. While this may feel like a small gesture,
supporting these organizations can make a big impact right now. If you
are in a position to support any of these organizations with a monetary
donation, please consider:
In the Fall, we will discuss, as a Family, how to
best support one or a few of these organizations with continued
monetary support, time, or other resources. We know needs will persist
for quite a while, and we would like to be a sustaining support for our
greater-Houston community in any way possible.
Addressing systemic injustice: When we begin looking toward systemic
change, let us remember the importance of exercising our right to vote
and being politically active! Certainly more conversation and action to
be had here in the coming months!
Next zoom: Monday, June 1st, and with no
homework beforehand. More details in the coming weeks!
