Dominican Family and Interfaith Ministries
 Dominican
Family is excited to be associated with the Multi-Faith Council of Interfaith
Ministries (IM) for greater Houston. IM brings people of diverse faith traditions
together for dialogue, collaboration, and service, as a demonstration of our
shared beliefs. IM provides many service opportunities for the community, including Dominican Family: - Meals on Wheels: Meals on Wheels provides home-delivered meals to disabled adults
and homebound clients over 60. The program also delivers weekend meals and a week’s worth of breakfast to over 1,100 of the most frail and isolated clients. Additionally, the AniMeals on Wheels program, founded in 2007, delivers pet food to IM’s Meals on Wheels clients so they not feel compelled to share their limited food and resources with their pets.
- Refugee Services: IM, in conjunction with the U.S. State Department and Episcopal Migration Ministries, resettles legal refugees fleeing their homeland in fear of political, social or religious persecution.
- Volunteer Houston: IM administers Volunteer Houston, which connects passionate individuals, groups and companies with non-profit agencies to transform the greater Houston community through volunteerism.
- The Dialogue
Project: The Dialogue Project provides opportunities to learn about Houston’s diverse faith communities, engage with people from diverse backgrounds, share your own experiences and listen to the experiences of others. Through the Dialogue Project, Interfaith Ministries aims to inspire participants to further interfaith dialogue, collaboration and service in their own communities. Interreligious understanding is a necessity, more so now than ever before.
- Dinner Dialogues:
A Dinner Dialogue is an evening held in a private home, a house of worship, or at
Interfaith Ministries, where a diverse group of 8-12 people from the Greater
Houston area, all from a variety of religious traditions and backgrounds, come
together to learn about one another and share a meal. The purpose of Dinner
Dialogues is to provide a meaningful experience for participants to learn about
one another’s perspectives and beliefs in an environment full of respect and
understanding.
- Faith
in Our City: Faith in
our City is a program to increase understanding of the variety of faiths in the
greater Houston community. Each month, two separate events are held to learn
about the highlighted religion for that month: 1) a visit to a house of
worship, and 2) an education discussion about the religion over lunch.
